If you are an Omnipod 5 and an iPhone user, then we have some exciting news for you! The FDA recently approved a free iPhone app that will allow patients to manage their blood sugars directly from their smartphones.
Previously, only Android users had an app with these key features, but iPhone users will soon have this luxury as well. Starting in the new year, iPhone users will be able to bolus insulin, change pods, edit settings, and keep track of carbohydrates for their favorite foods with the new Omnipod 5 iPhone app. This new development is critical to helping patients better manage their diabetes when using the Omnipod 5.
?New Diabetes Medications
As technology advances, new medications are being manufactured and studied that can improve glycemic control in patients with diabetes.
One of the current new medications that is being investigated is orforglipron, a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Orforglipron is an oral medication that works similarly to other GLP-1 agonists such as Rybelsus, Trulicity, and Ozempic to increase insulin secretion, reduce glucose secretion from the liver, and make you feel fuller for longer periods leading to lower blood glucose levels and can cause weight loss.
Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of orforglipron, is conducting multiple research studies to assess the effectiveness of this new medication in lowering A1c and improving glycemic control. The approval of this medication will provide another opportunity for patients to manage their blood sugars without having to give themselves injections.Â
